8 primary schools in Sabah closed due to floods and landslides

KOTA KINABALU: Eight primary schools involving 176 teachers and 1,972 pupils are temporarily closed due to floods and landslides.

Among those schools are SK St Catherine, SK Gudon, SK Rampayan and SK Natai here.

Others are SK Sumbiling in Papar, SK Menunggui in Kota Belud and Sk Tamalang, SK Lembah Poring in Beaufort.

Those building are either flooded or some of the access to the schools are cut off by waters or landslides.

Meanwhile the continuous rain has caused more landslides at Kampung Notorus near Jalan Penampang-Tambunan.

The rain that has been persisted at the west coast of Sabah since last week is expected to end today, said Sabah Meterological director Abdul Malek Tussin.

"The gloomy weather with strong winds occur in the wake of Typhoon Vong Fong in Philippines, as well as the collision between southwesterly and northeasterly winds at the South China Sea.

"Strong winds is expected until Sunday as the typhoon is on course to hit Japan over the weekend," he said, adding that some areas will still be flooded due to continuous downpour.
