MACC keeping an eye on Jeli, Gua Musang

KOTA BARU:  The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will place greater emphasis on weeding out graft in Jeli and Gua Musang as many corrupt practices involving civil servants allegedly occur in the two districts.

State MACC  director Abdul Aziz Aban said the agency was paying close attention to the two districts as it had received a large number of complaints compared with the rest of Kelantan.

“We received many letters which contained sketchy allegations of corruption in Jeli and Gua Musang.

“It is difficult to build a case on these allegations unless we have strong evidence to work on.”

He said close monitoring of the two districts was part of the ongoing  Op Belot, aimed at combating graft among officers in enforcement agencies, who may have allowed syndicates to operate.

On the number of cases recorded by the MACC since the operation was launched, he said the number remained small.

“We will continue to carry out this operation because, for us, early measures are important to stop this menace from spreading.”

Aziz said he would hold meetings with heads of department and enforcement agencies to brief them on the operation and the exchange of information.
