Rescue team to accompany Form Five students to pick up study materials for SPM

HULU SELANGOR: Rescue teams at an apartment in Bukit Beruntung which was affected in landslide yesterday are requested to accompany Form Five student in picking up their study materials at home.

Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan said with the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam in early November, it is worrying that affected students were not able to study.

"I am worried about their education. I hope the authorities would be able to accompany the students to their home so they would be able to pick up their study materials," he said.

Kalamanathan who is also the Hulu Selangor member of the parliament said he would be giving out contributions to the six families who will be celebrating Deepavali tomorrow.

A 17-year-old student Muhammad Fakhrul Azam Ruzman who will be sitting for SPM examination said the evacuation was unexpected and he did not bring any books or stationary with him.

"I'm worried as I could not study even though the examination is approaching. All of my books and study materials are at home.

"It means a lot if the authorities would accompany us to pick up our stuffs at home," he said.

Meanwhile, house owner R. Dothi said she was sad that she will have to celebrate Deepavali at the temporary shelter but at the same time relieved that her family is safe.

"I am grateful that the help came in before the situation gets any worse. I am sad that I will not be able to celebrate at home with my family but celebrating with the neighbours is fine too," she said, adding that the neighbours are considered as her family.
