TASEK GELUGOR: A construction firm manager and his family cheated death when a man broke into their car parked outside the compound and placed something in the Audi A6 before the vehicle exploded.
The 60-year-old victim told police he was having lunch with his family in Taman Tasek Gelugor when a man, on a motorcycle, broke into his car in the 2.30pm incident.
He said the lone suspect was wearing a full-faced helmet and dark clothings. He also told police he did not get to jot down the motorcycle registration number since the suspect sped off immediately after his car caught fire.
State criminal investigation department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said police were reviewing a closed circuit television footage of the incident.
"Fortunately, none of the victims were injured and that the family had turned on the CCTV.
"We are reviewing the footage and investigating the case under Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958," he said.
Those found guilty of the offence face up to two years’ jail and whipping.
