MAS flight diverted to Bali after passenger goes into labour

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysia Airlines flight headed for Brisbane was forced to divert to Bali today after one of its passengers went into labour.

It was learnt that MH135 from Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane, had requested a priority landing at 1.10pm at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport as the woman was about to give birth.

The Jakarta Post, quoting Angkasa Pura I General Manager at Ngurah Rai, Herry A.Y. Sikado, said the flight landed safely at the airport after requesting for the diversion.

The aircraft, carrying 178 passengers, landed safely and the woman, an Australian national identified as Samual P. Jeyanthi, was rushed to the Kasih Ibu Hospital in Bali.

“The incident did not disrupt airport operations and all flight schedules are running normally,” Herry was quoted as saying.

MH135 then departed from Brisbane two hours later.

A MAS spokesperson confirmed the incident and said the airline would be issuing a statement later.
