Penang Gerakan wants the state govt to come clean on sudden closure of water theme park

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Gerakan does not buy the commercial reason behind the fiasco of a Batu Ferringhi water theme park which came to an abrupt end this month.

Its chief Teng Chang Yeow hit out at the failed amusement park and claimed that the operator had a collaboration with the state administration in setting it up.

He rebutted that the state government could not brush aside the failure and shirk its responsibility for the park which closed only eight months into operation.

Teng was commenting on the commercial reason given by the DAP-led state government for the park's failure and described it as lame.

"We want the state government to come clean as the theme park has been linked to its agency Penang Global Tourism (PGT) and we want if the park has adhered to safety standard.

"Is PGT in financial difficulty? How can a state government so easily taken in by an assurance without proper checking on the floating structures at the theme park?, " Teng said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a Gerakan Deepavali Open house here in the evening.

Teng said there was a need for the public to know the truth to ensure there was no shortchange when a state agency was purportedly involved.
