10 arrested, 71 gambling machines seized in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 10 people and seized 71 illegal gambling machines during a simultaneous raid on three premises in Taman Miharja, Cheras here last night.

The 10pm operation was conducted by a team of city police headquarters Anti-Gambling, Vice and Secret Society Division (D7) following a tip-off received from the public.

Team leader Inspector Mohd Nor Nahar Nayan said among those arrested were three Indonesians, including two women, a local man and a woman who worked for the gambling syndicates as caretakers for their dens.

Five others were gamblers who were busy making their bets when the team moved in.

Mohd Nor Nahar said police also seized RM458 cash.

It is learnt that one of the syndicates tried to conceal its den from the authority’s detection by operating behind a small restaurant, while another had its front shutter door closed like an unoccupied shophouse.

The case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, while the Indonesians were also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for not having valid travel documents.
