Conti-nuing Pahang success

MATIAS Conti wants to become a match winner again for Pahang in the Malaysia Cup final at National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

The Argentine, who has netted 17 goals in all competitions this season, scored in Pahang’s 1-0 win over Kelantan in last year’s final for the east coast’s third title in the history of the competition.

Conti now wants to terrorise Darul Ta’zim’s talented defence on Saturday and the 24-year-old believes he and strike partner Dickson Nwakaeme will do their jobs to help Pahang retain their title.

He scored nine goals last season in the Malaysia Cup but has netted only six times due to his suspension in the quarter-finals for a red card in the group stage.

Conti, however, believes he has regained his form following his hat-trick in the 5-0 semi-final return leg win over Kedah in Kuantan last Friday for a 6-3 aggregate success.

“I want to do well on Saturday. I am fit and raring for action. It will be great to score again in the final but my priority is my team. It does not matter who scores as long we win,” said Conti in Kuantan after the semi-final return leg match against Kedah on Friday.

The final will be a showdown between three Argentine strikers.

Darul Ta’zim strikers Pereyra Diaz and Luciano Figueroa have netted 31 goals between them and their presence in the final will definitely be a threat to Pahang's defence, marshalled by former Jamaican international Damion Stewart.

Pahang and Darul Ta’zim are both aiming for their second title of the season on Saturday. Pahang won the FA Cup while Darul Ta’zim were champions in the Super League.
