ALOR STAR: More than a dozen houses were damaged when a landspout lashed its fury in Kampung Batin and Taman Inang in Mergong and Sungai Baru, Kubang Rotan today.
The twister-like landspout ripped off and blew away roofs of many houses.
The 4.50pm disaster occurred prior to a thunderstorm but no injury has been reported so far.
A Meteorology Department spokesman confirmed that it was a landspout, which can occur during strong winds.
Two weeks ago, a number of houses and a school in Kampung Alor Besar, Pendang were badly damaged when a tornado-like landspout created havoc following heavy rain and strong wind.
