CYBERJAYA: The government, through the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) aims to collect RM142 billion in taxes next year, said Deputy Finance Minister, Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

He said the target was based on the collection trend which showed increases every year, especially since 2010.

"In 2010 the tax collection was RM86 billion, 2011 (RM109 billion), 2012 (RM125 billion) and 2013 (RM129 billion)," he said after launching IRB's Innovation Day 2014 here today.

Ahmad said this year, the Finance Ministry targeted to collect RM140 billion in taxes and IRB has collected RM134 billion so far.

"The department has undertaken various innovations to make it easier for the rakyat to pay taxes like e-filing and Ez-Hasil," he said.

He said these efforts had resulted in the increase in tax collection yearly.

On the fuel rationalisation scheme which would be launched next year, Ahmad said the decision has not been finalised.-- Bernama
