Ringgit depreciates against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit was traded lower against the US dollar for a fifth consecutive session today, declining near its 10-month low, amid the stronger greenback, dealers said.

At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.3445/3465 against the greenback compared with 3.3270/3300 on Tuesday.

The local unit recorded its lowest level at 3.3450/3480 against the US dollar on January 30, 2014.

The greenback extended gains after the Republican victory in the US' mid-term elections, lifting appetite for riskier assets.

The local unit was traded mostly lower against other major currencies today.

It appreciated against the yen to 2.9220/9245 from Tuesday's 2.9287/9321.

The domestic unit, however, fell against the Singapore dollar to 2.5846/5880 from 2.5799/5842 on Tuesday, weakened against the British pound to 5.3315/3360 from 5.3239/3297 and declined against the euro to 4.1810/1845 from 4.1617/1665 previously.-- Bernama
