Workshop operator pleaded guilty to spreading deviant faith

Kamarudin Annuar, 48, admitted spreading the un-Islamic doctrine that mixed Islam with Christianity and Judaism.

He pleaded guilty to committing the offence on the second floor of a business premises at B-2-3 Blok B, Megan Phoenix, Jalan Cheras here, between 9pm and 9.25pm on Oct 20.

Two others - Mohamad Harizal Kamarudin, 36, and his wife Nur Ridah Osman, 26 - pleaded guilty to abetting in spreading the deviant teaching by participating in the group at the same time and place.

However, the court fixed Dec 11 for sentencing.

Meanwhile, Johan Haruna, 40, Mahamad Azhari Tajudin, 43, his pregnant wife Liliwati Eden, 36, Anuar Zainal, 47, and Kamalia Mohamed Taib, 34, who claimed trial on Nov 6 for spreading the  belief, maintained their pleas.

Counsel Siti Maisarah Hashim, who represented the five, pleaded for bail to be given to her clients.

"They have been in jail since they were charged. My clients have also given their full cooperation in the investigation," she said.

Syarie judge Ibrahim Deris allowed RM3,000 bail with one surety each to the accused who were present in court.

Ibrahim urged the sureties of four others were not present today - Zakaria Mat Kasa, 35, Mohd Arif Abd Aziz, 33, Heffy Syamsuar, 32, and Abdul Azim Abdullah, 29 - to ensure their presence at future proceedings.

He also ordered warrants of arrest against two others - Amirol Hafiz Mohd Samad, 24, and Aizul Farikh Zainal Abidin, 39 - to be extended and warrants of arrest to be issued to their sureties for not appearing in court.

Federal Territories Senior Syarie Prosecutor Zainor Rashid Hassin prosecuted.

All 14 of them were charged on Oct 20 in relation to the spreading of deviant teaching.

They indicated understanding the charges which were read individually to them. However, no pleas were recorded.

On Nov 6, five of 14 were ordered by the court to be remanded for five days when the other accused failed to turn up in court without any valid reason.

Ibrahim ordered Johan Haruna, Mahamad Azhari, Liliwati, Anuar Zainal and Kamalia to be remanded until yesterday when the case was brought up for re-mention.

All the accused were arrested in a raid conducted by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) on Oct 20 following a  public tip-off on a group spreading religious teachings that mixed Islam with Christianity and Judaism.
