Rivalry continues to sizzle

GEORGE TOWN: THE rivalry between the state’s top two girls deepened in the Penang Closed Singles Classic Tenpin Bowling Championship at the Penang Bowl Bowling Alley near here recently.

National youth bowler Nur Amirah Auni Azman beat arch rival Anis Shazlin Zulkhisham in the women’s Open but lost to her in the Milo Girls’ Open Singles Classic while Anis Shazlin won the Milo Girls’ Under-16 Singles Classic and Milo Girls’ Open Singles Classic titles.

Last year, 16-year-old Anis Shazlin lost both the junior titles to 17-year-old Nur Amirah Auni but defeated her in the Women’s Open.

The Penang Closed Singles Classic Tenpin Bowling Championship 2014 was hosted by the Penang Tenpin Bowling Association with the cooperation of the state sports council and Milo.

After losing the girls’ Open title, Nur Amirah Auni, a Fifth Former at SMK Seberang Jaya, regained her composure to post lines of 242, 191, 194, 222, 207, 177, 207, 207, 191 and 168 for a 2,006 total to reclaim the title she lost last year.

Anis Shazlin, an SMK Pauh Jaya Form Four student, had lines of 217, 182, 233, 189, 170, 175, 202, 179, 234 and 204 for a 1,985 for second spot.

Lily Yap Phooi Leng finished third with a 1,770 score.

The trio collected RM600, RM400 and RM300, respectively, for their win.

In the Men’s Open, Kelvin Tan Chun Shin was in his element as he scored 195, 234, 258, 236, 224, 215, 226, 225, 213 and 190 for a 2,216 total for first place.

The Malaysia Games kegler, who defeated his nearest rival by 212 pins, received RM1,000 for his efforts.

Mohamad Nazmi Mohd Mazli (2,095) was second while Mohamad Faiz Shahruddin (2,047) was third. The duo received RM800 and RM500 respectively.

RESULTS — Men’s Graded: 1 Mohamad Nazmi Mohd Mazli 2,168, 2 Eugene Oh Chern Yu 1,934, 3 Nurul Hakimi Najmudin 1,925, 4 Arief Ramadhan Juswa 1,876, 5 Mohd Afzainizam Abd Hamid 1,871.

Men’s Open: 1 Kelvin Tan Chun Shin 2,216, 2 Mohamad Nazmi Mohd Mazli 2,095, 3 Mohamad Faiz Shahruddin 2,047, 4 Toh Yih Hong 2,032, 5 Arief Ramadhan Juswa 2,031.

Women’s Open: 1 Nur Amirah Auni Azman 2,006, 2 Anis Shazlin Zulkhisham 1,985, 3 Lily Yap Phooi Leng 1,770, 4 Syazwani Annuar 1,764, 5 Hermiyah Rahman 1,737.
