Festival for the children

FOR the school holidays, Kuala Lumpur will host a festival specially dedicated to children. The Kuala Lumpur Kids Festival is the first of its kind in the country and will be an unforgettable extravaganza.

To be held from Dec 5-7 from 10am to 8pm daily, the event aims to educate, entertain and inspire children to explore their full potential through activities, performances and workshops. The festival will be held at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The inaugural event is jointly organised by Mojo Live and Universal Music Malaysia, and supported by Malaysia Major Events, a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau, an agency of the Ministry of Tourism And Culture, and the Education Ministry.

Kids get to participate in a Tropical Safari (a sort of petting zoo), Meet Superspace With Iron Man And Transformers as well as attend robot-making workshops.

On the main stage, kids will get to participate in dance and music, and watch family pop musical from United Kingdom Go! Go! Go!, Pororo - The Little Penguin, join in the Frozen singalong and experience the wonders of magic in Magic Wonderland.

A Hometown Square for the whole family will be created with playground, family games, parents’ rest and relax area and lots of food.

Speaking at the media launch of the festival, Education Deputy Minister II P. Kamalanathan P. Panchanathan said: “The event is especially dedicated to kids so that they can have fun during the school holidays while participating in interactive workshops that cover both arts, performance, dance as well as science and technology.”

Mojo Live managing director Aylwi Santiago said: “We are truly excited about organising this kid-centric extravaganza. The three days are going to be packed with fun-filled activities and attractions for kids aged 3 and above. There will be over 30 shows, performances, activities, workshops and entertainment shows. No kid will go home bored!”

The event also promotes the various festivals in conjunction with Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015.

Universal Music Malaysia managing director Loan Cheong echoes the general sentiment. “The interest in arts and culture and especially through music can be cultivated at an early stage. The festival offers a wide variety of entertainment for the family and it’s an exceptional platform for kids to have fun while experiencing new things and interacting with other children.”

Singer Ning Baizura and magician Dr Mahdi Moudini will be at the launch.

Tickets are available via Groupon Malaysia at a special offer of RM40 per child (for children aged 3-15) and RM24 per adult. Package rates are available for a two-day pass at RM60 per child and RM30 per adult. This special offer ends at midnight on Dec 4.
