Shopkeepers score big in Pepsi contest

KUALA LUMPUR: SIX provision shop owners nationwide were rewarded with a Mitsubishi Triton each in the Pepsi Revive Football Frenzy contest for their support of two of Malaysia’s most well-known beverages.

The six retailers — How Hoon Hong of Pasaraya Sri Putra, Shahrudin Mohamed Tahir (Seri Murni Mini Market), Ling Kean Chui (LHT Mart), Rosmaliza Ismail (K&Z Hypermarket), Brunei @ Lainah Runsun @ Mohon (Emmed & E Enterprise) and Jong Kuet Fui (Sin Nam Fatt) — scored big with their creativity and uniqueness.

They were selected from 600 participating provision shops, mini markets and sundry shops in the Central, South, North and East Coast regions as well as in Sabah and Sarawak. Held from April to May, participating outlets were required to creatively display their Pepsi and Revive Isotonic point of sales materials.

All they had to do to participate was purchase a minimum of 20 cases of Pepsi or Revive Isotonic. The contest was made even sweeter as participating outlets were rewarded with three free cases.

“This is such a nice surprise as it’s the first time I’ve won anything,” said Rosmaliza of Pasir Mas, Kelantan, after receiving her prize of a Mitsubishi Triton from Permanis Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Ng Eng Cheang here today.

“I never thought my carefully-arranged display would win me a pickup truck, but it’s a nice gesture of appreciation from Pepsi and Revive Isotonic.”

Ling of Manjung, Perak, said he had help from his family and employees in setting up the display.

“We worked tirelessly on the display to ensure that it would have the greatest possible impact on our customers,” he added.

Six second prize winners of Football Frenzy received RM2,000 each, while six third prize winners took home RM1,000 each. Twelve fourth prize winners received RM500 each.

Permanis vice-president ( marketing and business development) Hemalatha Ragavan said Football Frenzy was organised to reward and thank retailers for their support of the brands and create a buzz around the recent World Cup.

“Pepsi and Revive Isotonic have become household names, thanks largely to the efforts of our retailers,” she said.

She added that Football Frenzy also aimed to promote Pepsi’s football ambassadors such as Sergio Ramos of Spain, Jack Wilshere of England, Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi of Argentina, Robin Van Persie of Holland and Brazil’s David Luiz.

All the players were part of the World Cup in Brazil.
