Sarawak to announce more national parks in the state

KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem will announce more national parks in the state as a move to protect the enviroment.

"It will be more than the 10 per cent set by the United Nations, because I want our forests to be protected from illegal timber activities," he said at the Corporate Integrity Pledge among timber industry players at the State Legislative Assembly banquet hall.

Adenan also want enforcement officers to go hard on illegal timber activitives as he described the situation as "very bad" to the extend that it could not be tolerated anymore.

"Not only we are losing millions, illegal timber activities also give Sarawak a bad reputation internationally. This must stop and I am supporting the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission's effort to combat this problem.

"Enforcement officers are either, stupid, cowards or corrupt for allowing such thing to happen under their nose in broad daylight. I want this to stop," said Adenan.
