Cabbie nabbed for slapping woman

KUALA LUMPUR: A 48-year-old cabbie, alleged to have assaulted a woman in Jalan Raja Chulan on Monday, was picked up by police today.

Dang Wangi district police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah said the case is being investigated under Section 506 and Section 323 of the Penal Code with committing criminal intimidation by assaulting and threatening the victim.

Tan Yun Ceat, 26, lodged a report at the Dang Wangi station claiming she was slapped on both cheeks after she refused to give way after being honked.

Tan said in her police report that there were two cars parked on both sides of the road as she was driving through Jalan Angsoka when the taxi suddenly came from the opposite direction.

“He rammed my car after I refused to reverse,” she said

“He then spoke in foul language, came out of his vehicle and slapped me,” she added

She suffered cuts on her lips while the bumper of her Perodua Myvi was damaged.

The incident went viral on the social media after Tan shared photos of the incident with 1,624 shares by Facebook users.

Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) enforcement division head Datuk Che Hasni Che Ahmad said the cabbie permit will be suspended while the case is being investigated.

“If he is found guilty, his licence may be revoked for a certain period of time, depending on the severity of the case,” he said.

“I urge anyone who was threatened or assaulted by drivers of any public transport to lodge a police repo rt," he added.

This was the second road bully case reported this week. Today, a 58-year-old consultant company director was charged with damaging a 45-year-old personal assistant’s car by spitting and bending the front wiper.
