MUAR: The Muar Municipal Council (MPM) will be closing several roads to accommodate the Sultan Ismail Bridge Carnival tomorrow.
Jalan Maharani and the Sultan Ismail bridge are among the list of roads and crossings that would be closed.
The closure would take effect at 2pm on the day and ends at 3am on Sunday.
MPM president Ramlee Abd Rahman said the closure had to be imposed to ensure that the carnival events and traffic run smoothly.
“This is especially to facilitate the host of activities which will be held at a carnival site along Traders Hotel and other intersections to the bridge.”
Ramlee also said the Maharani Bus Station operations will be temporarily moved to the Jalan Abdullah public parking area during the carnival.
He said some of the activities include brass band marches by numerous schools, kompang troupes, an Indian classical dance performance and a closing ceremony which features a fireworks display.
“Visitors are advised to park their vehicle at the Muar District Office or in Tanjung Emas public parking.”
Ramlee said the Uptown Muar traders will be allowed to continue their operations as usual and the council may consider extending the uptown bazaar operation hours until midnight if they make a formal request. By Ibrahim Isa
