Jakim: Cadbury chocs halal

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) yesterday declared Cadbury chocolates made and sold in Malaysia are halal for consumption.

Cadbury Malaysia’s corporate and government issues head Raja Zalina Raja Safran said the company was satisfied that Jakim had expressed that Cadbury products in Malaysia met halal guidelines.

“After months of speculation, we hope the announcement will remove any remaining confusion over the halal status of Cadbury items in Malaysia, leaving consumers free to enjoy our delicious treats once again.”

Jakim tested Cadbury’s chocolate products and production processes and affirmed that stringent hygiene, quality and safety standards were in accordance with halal guidelines, Zalina said in a statement.
