Keep culture and heritage, youth told

BEAUFORT: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman has called on youths to continue to preserve tribal and ethnic culture to keep traditional heritage alive.

He said the existence and survival of ethnic groups depended on their willingness, determination and commitment to uphold cultural heritage.

“Therefore, the state government welcomes programmes to maintain unity and uphold local cultural heritage,” he said, in a speech read by Deputy Women, Family and Community Development MinisterDatuk Azizah Mohd Dun, at the Bagandang Festival here yesterday.

Musa said besides helping to highlight Malaysia’s multicultural identity, the Bagandang Festival was an opportunity for the people here to earn some income.

The annual festival is in its sixth year with this year’s theme being “Upholding Culture Together”. The five-day event ended yesterday. Among the programmes held were the Cultural Festival Night, in which seven states took part. Bernama
