Instructor drowns in pool

MALACCA: A 35-year-old karate instructor was found drowned in a public swimming pool in Banda Hilir here on Friday night.

The body of Eng Che Huan of Ayer Hitam, Johor, was found lying at the bottom of the pool by lifeguards at 8pm.

Eng was given immediate medical attention, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he was pronounced dead by paramedics, who arrived minutes later.

It is learnt that the victim and his girlfriend had arrived here for a working trip on Wednesday and was scheduled to return to Johor yesterday.

Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdul said police had ruled out foul play and that the case had been classified as sudden death.

Eng’s body was brought to Malacca Hospital for a post-mortem and was claimed by family members yesterday.
