Traffic back to normal in Federal Highway

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic is back to normal in the Federal Highway after it was closed following a gantry crane used in the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) nearly slipped at about 4pm, yesterday.

A PLUS Expressway Traffic Control Centre spokesman said the incident yesterday caused 17 kilometer traffic in the highway near Subang Parade but the scene was cleared by 8pm.

“As of today, the traffic is back to normal and motorists could use the highway as usual,” he said.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the LRT Line Extension Project (LEP) said following the incident, the construction was temporarily put on hold.

“The construction was put on hold to allow investigation. As of now, the gantry crane was lowered down and it does not pose any threat on the public. Public could use the road as usual,” he said.

The spokesman added Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd apologized for the inconvenience caused to the motorist.

Yesterday, the gantry crane was immediately lowered down after the contractors spotted abnormality to the crane which was located right on the top of the highway heading towards Shah Alam.

Authorities had to close the road for about five hours and divert motorists heading towards Shah Alam to travel using Jalan Glenmarie and Subang Jaya.
