Stray dogs, cats found poisoned

SEVERAL people have been feeding food laced with poison to stray animals in the city.

The Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) president Soong Wai Chiew said he had received several reports on the matter.

“The latest incident was in Taman Saikat, Gunung Rapat. More than 10 stray dogs and cats died after eating tainted sausages,” he told Streets in an interview here, recently.

Soong added that he also received reports of similar incidents happening in Taman Wah Keong and Menglembu.

“It may just be the tip of an iceberg.

“We believe there are many other cases which went unreported,” he added.

Soong appealed to the perpetrators to stop poisoning the strays.

“You don’t have to like the strays but please don’t hurt them.

“They have the right to live too,” he said.

Soong urged those with CCTV recordings of the act to come forward with the evidence.

“Give us the video evidence. We will lodge a report with the Veterinary Services Department,” he said.

Dog owner, Jeanny Ho said her pet was found dead in September after eating tainted food.

Ho, who lives in Taman Saikat, said her dog went missing for two days before being found lifeless.

“He died horrifically, with blood oozing from the mouth, eyes bulging and his intestines protruding,” said the sales and marketing clerk.

To help control the stray population in the city, ISPCA will jointly organise a Trap, Neuter and Release programme with the Ipoh City Council on Dec 7.

Independent rescuers are urged to check the society’s Facebook page for details.
