KUALA LUMPUR: An amendment to the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today which among others entered the definition of ketum (Mitragyna speciosa) as a dangerous drug.
The proposed amendment also covered ban on importing, exporting, possession, planting, ketum industry and creating a provision for power to regulate the production and affairs on ketum.
The abuse of ketum leaves prior to this was placed under the Poisons Act 1952.
The related bill was tabled for first reading by Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya.--BERNAMA
