KLIA Customs seized RM4.6m worth of drugs

SEPANG: The KLIA Customs Department has successfully seized three parcels of drugs weighing 24.21kg worth RM4.60 million.

Its director-general Datuk Omar Chik Lim said the drugs were seized on three separate days, which were Nov 20, 22 and 24.

He said the newest modus operandi used by drug syndicates to smuggle drugs into Malaysia was through parcels sent via courier services.

Omar added that the first parcel seized was sent from Guangdong, China and it contained methamphetamine weighing 9.69kg and worth RM1.8 million.

The parcel, he said, contained seven exhaust pipes in which 27 plastics holding the drugs were concealed in them (pipes) and it was collected by a woman, 34.

Omar said the woman had since been remanded to assist with the investigation and if found guilty, she would be charged under‎ Section 39 (b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which could result in a capital punishment.
