White Paper on Islamic State, tabled and passed

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat today passed and adopted White Paper entitled - Towards Countering Threats Posed by Islamic State Militant Group (Ke Arah Menangani Ancaman Kumpulan Islamic State).

The House adopted the White Paper, after a one and half hour debate involving six members of Dewan Rakyat from side’s of the divide.

The winding-up was by Home Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The White Paper was tabled earlier by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and was seconded by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Earlier, in his speech, Najib expressed his concern that the number of Malaysians influenced by the Islamic State (IS) militants ideology may see an increase.

In tabling the white paper on the threat posed by IS in the Dewan Rakyat, the Prime Minister said he felt sad and sympathised with the families of Malaysians who were killed in Syria.

" As of now 39 Malaysians have been identified to be involved in militant activities in Syria.

" I'am worried that 40 more will face the same fate if the authorities do no arrest them," he said.

Najib said there was an urgent need by the government to inform Malaysians who might not be aware of IS militant and their extremist activities .

" They might not know of the real IS which has a skewed belief of Islam, which makes them vulnerable and easily influenced by this militant group," he stressed.

Najib said the white paper aims to expose the IS group’s real face while hiding behind Islam and has the actual aim of establishing an Islamic caliphate.

" They have misconstrued the true concept of 'jihad' , they are of the belief that the only way to reach their goals is through war.

" Actually the Jihad-Salafi ideology championed by this group is based on extremism and terrorism which goes against the teachings of Sunnah Wal Jamaah,". he added.

Malaysia practices the sunni school of thought known as Sunnah Wal Jamaah.

Nab added that the true Jihad brings a larger meaning in achieving ‘ Maqasid Syariah’ including the nation’s national security, safeguard religion and others.

This group has also exploited the true concept if Hijra, he added.

“ Instead IS urged Muslim’s to come to Syria and Iraq in the name of Islam, when their true intention was to assist the group in their war to expand their conquering’s”, Najib said.

Najib adds that Malaysians should be aware that the war was a clash of politics and sectarian conflict, with no what so ever link with the concept of Jihad and Hijrah.
