Terengganu Crisis: Chronology

KUALA LUMPUR: Below is the list of chronology of the ongoing political crisis in Terengganu

May 12:

- 6.30 pm: Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor confirms a change of menteri besar following a closed-door meeting with several Terengganu Umno leaders in Kuala Terengganu.

- 8.30 pm: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, has consented to the resignation of Datuk Seri Ahmad Said as the menteri besar of Terengganu effective May 12.

- 9.30 pm: Seberang Takir assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman, 49, takes oath as the 14th menteri besar of Terengganu before Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at the Istana Syarqiyyah in Kuala Terengganu.

TERENGGANU-CHRONOLOGY (AS OF 1 PM, MAY 13) 2 (LAST) KUALA LUMPUR

May 13:

- 1 am: Former menteri besar and Kijal assemblyman Ahmad and Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib announce their resignation from Umno and declare themselves as independent elected representatives.

- 8.30 am: Bukit Besi assemblyman Roslee Daud announces his resignation from Umno and declares himself an elected representative. He was the state rural development, entrepreneurship, cooperatives and consumerism committee chairman.

- 9.30 am: After Ahmad, Ghazali and Roslee declare themselves as independent elected representatives, the 32-seat Terengganu legislative assembly has 14 assemblymen from the Barisan Nasional (BN), 14 from PAS, one from PKR and three independents.

- Terengganu legal advisor Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said that with the equation in the state assembly being 15 opposition, 15 BN (with the speaker included) and three independents, BN remained in power going by the party in power after the 13th general election.

- 11.20 am: Kemasik assemblyman Rosli Othman denies having quit Umno to become independent elected representative.

- 12.30 pm: Permaisuri assemblyman Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee denies having quit Umno to become independent elected representative.

- Terengganu Police chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapa says security situation in Terengganu is under control and people are going about their daily activities as usual.
