GEORGE TOWN: Renowned social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir was conferred an honorary Doctor of Letters by the Wawasan Open University (WOU) here today.
Also receiving the same doctorate was Universitas Terbuka Indonesia's rector, Prof Dr. Tian Belawati.
The doctorates were presented by WOU's chancellor, Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin Abdullah.
"We are both particularly honoured that in the five years since WOU has given out honorary awards at its convocation, we are the first female recipients," Marina said in her acceptance speech at the university's fifth convocation ceremony.
A total of 400 graduates received their scrolls at WOU's campus at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah.
