LIFE just got tougher for Malaysia in the Axiata Cup, following their 3-1 defeat to Thailand at the Britama Arena in Jakarta yesterday.
Men's singles Liew Daren had initially given Malaysia a 1-0 lead, after defeating Thailand's Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 21-18, 21-9.
But it was shortlived as Ratchanok Intanon proved too strong for Tee Jing Yi, needing only 30 minutes to win 21-6, 21-19.
The Thais took the lead through Maneepong Jongjit-Nipitphon Puangpuapech who beat Tan Wee Kiong-Hoon Thien How 21-13, 21-15 in the men's doubles.
Their mixed pairing of Sudket Prapakamol-Saralee dashed Malaysia’s hopes after beating Tan Aik Quan-Lai Pei Jing 21-19, 21-15.
It is Malaysia's second consecutive defeat, following a 4-0 thumping by Indonesia on Saturday.
