MH17: Malaysia is full member of Joint Investigation Team

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has been accepted as a full member of the MH17 Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said the country will join the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium and Ukraine, who were initially the original members of the team.

He said the notification of the acceptance of Malaysia as a full and equal member of the Joint Investigation Team was conveyed by the Dutch National Public Prosecutor’s Office through its letter dated Nov 28.

“As part of the continuing joint international criminal investigation process, the Attorney-General will be leaving for The Hague on Wednesday to attend the Third Eurojust Coordination Meeting on the criminal investigation, which is scheduled on Dec 4,” he said in a statement this evening.

Abdul Gani said the meeting will also be attended by the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Last month, Khalid was reported to have called on the team to include Malaysian investigators to play a more active role in the probe instead of merely being participants.
