Water cuts in 700 Hulu Selangor homes

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 700 households in Hulu Selangor experienced unscheduled water disruption and low water pressure because of the temporary closure of the Sungai Selisik water treatment plant.

The plant, managed by Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd (PNSB), has been closed since 7am yesterday because of flooding, as the area has been hit with heavy rain since Monday.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), which is in charge of water supply in the state, said repair works were under way at the plant.

However, Syabas Corporate Communication and Public Affairs general manager Priscilla Alfred yesterday said PNSB was waiting for the floodwater to recede at the plant before carrying out repair work.

“We have been told by PNSB that the plant will resume operations when the water level has receded and repair work, completed.”

She said 731 households, using 1.3 million litres of treated water daily, were affected.

The affected area include Kampung Sungai Nilam, Kampung Sri Pagi, Kampung Lalang, Rumah Murah, Kampung Serigala, Kampung Sekolah/Kampung Bahom, Kuarters Guru/Klinik, Kampung Masjid and Kampung Gesir Tengah.

Lorries with water tanks, as well as static water tanks, have been prepared by Syabas for water distribution.

Alfred said “critical users”, such as clinics, health centres and welfare homes, would be prioritised in the distribution of water.

She said Syabas would monitor the situation and provide updates via mass media.

“Consumers can get more information by calling our call centre, Puspel, via the toll-free line, 1-800-88-5252, or through the mySYABAS application.”
