RCI: Culture of immigrants offends local residents

KUALA LUMPUR: In the report, Papar District Officer Iman Ali said the culture of immigrants living in some squatter settlements, on occasions, offended local residents’ sentiments with practices such as the so-called “flying toilet” (habit of defecating into a polystrene clam shells) and also peddling smuggled cigarettes.

The expanding problem relating to children of illegal immigrants and refugees was also mentioned in the report stating that they did not even have basic education and at times seen roaming on the streets causing public nuisance.

The report intends to draw relevant authorities to assist a man named Yahya Yacob in his efforts to help these kids by establishing a school he calls “Madarasah” as he is still short of funds.

“This type of project can be extended to the squatter settlements. We hope the relevant authorities should assist in terms of providing logistic and funding because education is basic in every decent society.

“To ignore it is an invitation to disaster for future generations.” it said.
