Khairy to decide on MNCF

WHETHER the Malaysian National Cycling Federation’s (MNCF) suspension is lifted or it is dealt the maximum penalty of de-registration, will be decided by Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin over the next few days.

Sports Commissioner Ahmad Shapawi Ismail had submitted his report together with views of the sports ministry’s auditors on Friday, following the MNCF’s reply to conditions set under its one-month suspension that ended on Nov 24 but Khairy stated he wasn’t satisfied with the findings.

“I’ll need another one or two days to have a look at the files. I need to read two thick stacks of files before I can make my decision,” said Khairy.

“I wasn’t satisfied with the report, so I asked for all the details to have a look at it myself.”

The MNCF was slapped with a one-month suspension following findings of various instances of financial mismanagement and conflicts of interest in its handling of government funds meant for its road programme and organisation of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) between 2011 and 2013. By Arnaz M. Khairul
