Colour pencil artworks stun visitors

GEORGE TOWN: TWO artists from Penang are proving that colour pencils can be used to create stunning works of art, just like any other medium.

Penang-born Sharon S.S. Kow and Canadian Barbara Moore are collaborating in a week-long exhibition called The Fine Art of Colour Pencil at the Straits Quay in Tanjung Tokong.

The exhibits surprised visitors with their detail, versatility, and realism.

Kow, who lives in Batu Feringgi, is a renowned colour pencil artist in Malaysia and her works have received rave reviews from several magazines in the United States.

Among the works featured were those portraying the trials and tribulations her family went through in the last days of her father’s life.

One of Kow’s works, To Have and To Hold, commemorates the everlasting love shared between her parents.

The artwork One More Day features her father’s grandfather clock and represents hope that her father would live another day.

There are also artworks inspired by her pet dogs, nature and people.

Moore has lived in Penang for the past 14 years after travelling around the world with her husband.

“I hope to raise awareness that colour pencils can also be used as a medium to interact with art lovers and immortalise beautiful memories,” she said.
