Guided tour around Pulau Tikus

GEORGE TOWN: VISITORS to Penang can now get intimate with Pulau Tikus, an affluent suburb steeped in history, thanks to a free guided tour service.

The tour, known as ‘My Pulau Tikus Tour’, offers comprehensive narration for tourists to learn its historic background.

The project is an initiative by Pulau Tikus assemblyman Yap Soo Huey with the help of Penang Tourist Guides Association (PGTA). It starts this Sunday.

The guided tour will be carried out onboard the Pulau Tikus Loop shuttle bus, a service sponsored by Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon Mall.

Two tour guides onboard the bus will narrate interesting sites in Pulau Tikus in English, Malay and Mandarin.

It starts from Gurney Plaza (Jalan Kelawai entrance) at 2pm and ends at Gurney Paragon at 4.30pm.

Yap said RM13,000 had been allocated to the research and planning for this project.

““We plan to rope in licensed tour guides to narrate the history of heritage sites in Pulau Tikus,”” Yap said while introducing the event here recently.

Among the places featured in the introductory tour are Church of Immaculate Conception, Belissa Row, local handicrafts at Huey&Wah cafe, WatBuppharam, Ang Hock See, Old Chinese Village in Kampung Sirih, Old Malay Village in Kampung Syed and Masjid Jamek al-Munauwar.
