Call to see classified documents

PETALING JAYA: A Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor urged mayor Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad to grant him access to several development project working papers given by the state government.

Councillor Tang Fui Koh said he had requested access to working papers on controversial projects such as the Universiti Malaya Health Metropolis, Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) and documentation related to his calls for the state government to cancel Petaling Jaya Local Plan 1 and 2.

Tang claimed that his earlier requests were shot down by Alinah, who said the documents were classified under the Official Secrets Act.

However, Tang insisted that he should be allowed access as councillors had helped to prepare the proposals.

“The state government should review this ruling. If not, there is no point of having councillors.”

Alinah said Azmin had been informed of the matter and the latter had promised to get back to MBPJ on Petaling Jaya Local Plan 1 and 2.

On the closure of the A&W drive-in in Lorong Sultan, Alinah said landowner KUB Malaysia Bhd could not start the construction work as the latter had yet to submit the paper work.

“They can close the A&W but they need our approval before tearing down the building.

“It would take at least two to three months for the council to go through a planning application.”

The popular food outlet is slated to be closed down by end of the year to make way for two office towers project.
