Activist told to enter his defence over sedition

KUALA LUMPUR: Activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim was ordered to enter his defence to a sedition charge over his speech at a forum in May last year.

Sessions Court judge Mat Ghani Abdullah made the order after ruling that the prosecution had proved a prima facie case against him.

Adam Adli, 26, was alleged to have uttered seditious remarks during the forum at the Kuala Lumpur and
Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall
between 8.55pm and 11.15pm on May 13.

The prosecution called four witnesses, two of them policemen who had made a video recording of the alleged incident.

Mat Ghani fixed July 22 for Adam Adli to enter his defence.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua, Pas member Tamrin Ghafar, non-governmental organisation leader Haris Ibrahim, student activist Muhammad Safwan Anang@Talib and social activist Hishamuddin Rais were separately charged at the Sessions Court last year with committing sedition at the same time and place.

Safwan was ordered to enter his defence while the others are awaiting trial.
