Cookie surprise for residents

THE residents of Bukit Kiara Properties received a nice surprise from the property developer in the form of Christmas cookies with a handwritten message.

To raise funds for Philea Home in Kapar, Klang, under its Caring Hands initiative to give back to the community, the company held a two-day baking session at the home.

Bukit Kiara Properties staff, with help from the children, baked 30,000 chocolate chip cookies.

The 500 containers of cookies were bought by Bukit Kiara Properties, who later distributed them the residents of Verve Suites and Hijauan Kiara in Mont Kiara.

Bukit Kiara Properties group managing director Datuk N.K. Tong said: “We often organise charity programmes to reach out to welfare homes.

“As Christmas is approaching, we thought of contributing to the community and engaging with our residents at the same time.

“Baking cookies with Philea Home and distributing them to our residents was a natural extension of our core purpose, which is to enrich lives through meaningful engagement.”

The Bukit Kiara Properties team and children from the home prepared ingredients, baked and packed cookies together.

They also wrote the names of the bakers and Christmas greetings on cards that were later attached to the containers of cookies.

The children demonstrated experience during the baking session as the home has been baking and selling cookies for years to help with its expenses.

“This is the first time we have worked with others to bake cookies and I enjoyed it very much,” said Saratha, who led the younger children at baking.

The Bukit Kiara Properties employees also played games with the children and presented them with Christmas gifts and food.

Philea Home caretaker, Yoges, said: “We appreciate this caring initiative as the money we have raised from the sale of the cookies will come in useful for the purchase of supplies when school opens next year.”

Registered with the state Welfare Department, Philea Home provides shelter for abused children.

There are 16 children aged under 17 residing at the home.
