Floods: Kelantan worsens, Terengganu improves

KOTA BARU: Flood situation in Kelantan worsened this morning, with more than 600 people evacuated from their homes.

A spokesman from the state information department said the victims were from Jeli, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah and Pasir Putih.

He said Jeli was the worst affected district as of 8am.

“The victims in Jeli are now taking shelter at eight centres,” he said.

The spokesman said water levels of major rivers including Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Golok was on the rise following continuous rain since last night.

In KUALA TERENGGANU, it was the opposite, as more flood victims returned home this morning, following improved conditions in Terengganu, compared to yesterday.

They are now only 782 victims from 209 families seeking shelter at 18 centres statewide as of 8am.

According to the State Welfare Department portal, despite the improvement, two new relief centres were opened in Dungun.

A total of 209 victims from 62 families were moved to the relief centres in Dungun, early this morning.

The portal said Kemaman recorded the highest number of evacuees with 421 people from 104 families seeking shelter at 11 relief centres.

In Setiu, two centres are accommodating 22 people from eight families while in Marang, 108 victims from 25 families sought shelter at two relief centres.

The Seri Kandi hall in Pengadang Baru, Kuala Terengganu remain opened with 22 victims from five families seeking shelter.
