Flood worsens in four states, continues to improve in Terengganu

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood worsened in four states with a total of 20,000 people displaced, while the situation in Terengganu continued to improve.

The four states are Kelantan, Johor, Pahang and Sabah.

According to the InfoBencana JKM website, Kelantan is currently operating 67 temporary relief centres (PPS), sheltering 20,961 flood victims as of 9pm today, with a notable increase of 3,000 people within a brief 4-hour window.

Among the 67 PPS in Kelantan, 15 are operating nearing full capacity.

Pahang reported 206 evacuees seeking refuge at four PPSs, which include 87 individuals affected by a landslide at Cameron Highlands.

While Johor has three PPS for 121 victims, and Sabah has two PPS with 30 evacuees seeking shelter.

For Terengganu, 1,709 families sought shelter at 63 PPS, totalling 6,175 flood victims.

Despite this, three telemetry stations in Terengganu are showing warning signs of an increase in water height, issuing alerts at Sungai Terengganu-Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Jengai Sungai Dungun, and Sungai Terengganu-Hulu Terengganu.

The continuous rains are expected to cease today in the states of Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman); Pahang (Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan, and Rompin); and Johor (Segamat, Mersing, and Kota Tinggi).

Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan, and Rompin) and Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru) are forecasted to have continuous rain until Dec 28 (Thursday).

The largest number of flood victims continues to be in Kelantan.

Unfortunately, two fatalities have been recorded in the state on Sunday and yesterday.
