Clear skies but more evacuees in Kuantan

KUANTAN: Despite the clear skies over the state capital today, the number of flood victims here increased to 427 from 108 families as at 1pm.

The SMK Pandan flood relief centre has 355 evacuees from 87 families followed by SK Kempadang with 32 people (eight families), Dewan Orang Ramai Sri Damai (28 people from 10 families) and SMK Gudang Rasau (12 people from three families).

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh said KM34 of Jalan Kuantan-Maran was still closed to all traffic after water rose up to 0.6meter on Wednesday evening.

He reminded villagers, especially those living in low lying-areas, to be prepared to move to relief centres if their homes were hit by the floods.
