Pahang folks warned: Monsoon season not over, clear skies not to be taken lightly

KUANTAN: Although the weather across Pahang has seen a major improvement compared to the continuous downpour and floods last week, the public are continuously reminded to remain alert.

State Civil Defence Force (APM) director Colonel Che Adam A Rahman said as long as the northeast monsoon (MTL) had not ended, there was still potential for episodes of heavy downpour to occur.

"The floods have receded and there are more clear skies this week but the weather conditions are unpredictable. It is best for everyone to remain vigilant till the MTL ends in March.

"All water activities are still prohibited. We know a lot of people are excited with the promising weather and might make plans to go to the beach but they have to limit their activities," he told reporters when met at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.

Meanwhile, Che Adam said red flags had been raised at all popular beaches in Pahang and that APM lifeguards were stationed daily between 7am and 7pm.

"Six lifeguards are on duty at Pantai Sepat, Teluk Cempedak, Batu Hitam and Cherating in Kuantan, and Pantai Hiburan in Rompin respectively. The lifeguards would monitor from the watchtower and patrol on foot.

"So far, visitors at the beach have adhered to the lifeguards instructions to stay away from the water as they are also aware of the threat posed by the huge waves during the monsoon season," he said.

As of 2pm today, only seven victims from two families are seeking shelter at the Kampung Baru multipurpose hall in Maran while the floods at other districts have completely recovered.
