Orphans mesmerise with lively dance performances

IPOH: THE Watoto Children’s Choir raised RM33,000 during the “Beautiful Africa: A New Generation” concert.

The event, organised by the Glory Creative Ministry, was held at the Red Crescent Hall, here.

The orphans, aged between 6 and 13, are from Uganda. They mesmerised the audience with their lively dance performances.

Using their powerful vocals, they presented an energetic fusion of contemporary gospel songs with traditional African rhythms.

The choir, established in 1994, has toured Australia, Canada, Japan, Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries.

Glory Creative Ministry chairman Felicia Foong said the funds raised would be channelled to the Watoto Childrens’ Ministry which helps abandoned African children to continue schooling in Uganda.

“Currently, there are about 3,000 neglected children in the Watoto village who depend on their farming skills to survive and public donations for their education.

“We encourage the public to join the ‘Adopt a Child’ programme to help these unfortunate children pursue their studies or learn a skill,” she said.

Foong added that the Watoto concert was named the Concert of Hope to show the life-changing love of God experienced by these children in Africa.
