MP raps Penang govt over ban on processions

KUALA LUMPUR: Kulim-Bandar Baharu member of parliament Datuk Zulkifli Noordin yesterday chastised Penang DAP-led government for disallowing Maulidur Rasul processions in the state.

Zulkifli said only the police had the authority to prohibit such public gatherings.

“This is an another act of provocation by the DAP-led state government after its Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s recent statement encouraging non-Muslims in Penang to use the word ‘Allah’.”

Zulkfili said it was also an insult to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as Islamic matters were under the king’s purview and represented by the state’s Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

“It is also a violation against the Federal Constitution as Islam is the religion of the federation.”

He urged Muslims in Penang to not comply to the state government’s decision.
