Terengganu flood situation improving, more victims return home

KUALA TERENGGANU: Flood situation throughout the state has improved with only 123 relief centres operated in seven districts as of 8am this morning.

The number of victims dropped to 8,709 of 2,535 families compared to 11,978 people of 3,435 families yesterday evening.

According to the State Welfare Department portal, Besut recorded the worst affected area with 3,226 people of 1,009 families were evacuated to 45 relief centres.

This is followed by Dungun where 2,132 people of 576 families were retained at 30 relief centres while in Kemaman, 1,925 victims of 519 families were evacuated to 18 relief centres.

In Hulu Terengganu, 1,072 people of 342 families were moved to 16 relief centres while in Setiu 290 people of 71 families seeking shelter at 10 relief centres.

The portal also stated that Kuala Terengganu had added its sole centre to three with 43 victims from 11 families placed there while Marang retained with 21 people from seven families at the sole centre.
