Flood: 26 mapping officers on Mount Gagau forced to descend on foot

KUALA TERENGGANU: A team of 26 Kuala Terengganu Mapping and Survey Department officers up on Gunung Gagau in Kenyir were forced to hike as the helicopter that was supposed to pick them up could not land due to bad weather.

The officers, all male, were on a mission to map out the border between Terengganu and Kelantan a week ago.

They were transported to the peak by a helicopter.

State Fire and Rescue Department public relation officer Rozizah Abnihajar said the they started descending on Sunday and were due to arrive at 3pm today.

It is learnt that climbers need more than 24 hours to descend.

"We have a team of officers from the Kuala Berang Fire and Rescue Department on standby at the foot of the mountain as we were told they was a shortage of food supplies," she said adding that they were all in good health.
