Sabah latest to be hit by flood

TENOM: More than 100 people were evacuated from their homes as more than 50 villages were affected by floods following heavy rain, here, since last night.

District Officer Madiyem Layapan said five relief centres were opened for the evacuees as the district remain in full alert after Sungai Padas broke its banks this morning.

The five centres opened were at Bangkulin, Labut, Naluyan, Mandalom Lama and Pantongan Saga, he said adding the Welfare department will be assisting the victims.

Meanwhile in Beaufort over 5,000 people were affected by the floods that came from upper Sungai Padas since this morning.

District Officer Mohd Shaid Othman said so far no families were evacuated but at least 10 villages were inundated and many of the main road links were impassable.
