Islamic counselling graduate gets top award

KUALA KANGSAR: It came as no surprise for anyone when Kolej Universiti Islam Sultan Azlan Shah top student Nur Hidayah Yusoff clinched the highest award at the university college’s convocation ceremony.

This is because she has been on the dean’s list for six semesters.

Nur Hidayah attributed her academic success to her parents.

“My parents are the driving force for my success,” said the soft-spoken girl from Kuah, Sayong, here.

Nur Hidayah, who graduated with a Diploma in Islamic Counselling, received the Anugerah Diraja award from Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, who is also the university college’s chancellor.

The award comes with a certificate, medallion and RM7,000.

Nur Hidayah, who had a CGPA of 3.72, said her ambition was to be a lecturer.

“I have applied to continue my studies at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris,” she said.

Rector Prof Tan Sri Dr Nordin Kardi said the university college had grown by leaps and bounds since it opened 15 years ago.

“From seven personnel, we now have 301, with 109 in academia and 192 in administration,” he said.

Nordin said the varsity started with three diploma courses. Now, it is offering 15 diploma courses and five degree programmes.

“We hope to start postgraduate studies next September,” he said, adding that the university college was in talks with the Malaysian Qualification Agency for that purpose. By Sylvia Looi
