Hotel collects RM18,000 in food for the needy

GEORGE TOWN: Hard Rock Hotel Penang raised RM18,000 worth of food for the underprivileged through its third Can Lah! campaign.

The campaign was aimed at raising awareness of poverty and hunger.

They distributed the first batch of the food items in Taman Sri Nibong last week.

Hotel general manager John Primmer said this was the largest amount of food they received compared to the previous years.

“We are glad that many have come to support our project.

“We hope the support will continue to grow in years to come,” he said.

The food items were collected through various events, including the hotel’s annual marathon entitled Rock to Rock Run and its food drive held throughout last month.

Other events included the United Thru Music and United Thru Comedy.

The food items will be distributed to 40 families monthly starting this month.

The families included those who are visually impaired, senior citizens, disabled and single parents selected by FOODBANK4U, a non-profit organisation which supplies basic food items to the needy. By Jennifer Tham
