KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar today, dampened by weak demand for the local unit, dealers said.
As at 5 pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.4950/4970 vis-a-vis the greenback from 3.4860/4880 on Monday.
The ringgit continued to come under pressure today, as the ‘dollar-buying’ sentiment and falling oil prices increased the appetite for the greenback.
Against other major currencies, the rinngit was traded higher.
It appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.6415/6434 from 2.6443/6478 on Monday and rose against the yen to 2.9086/9110 from 2.9103/9122 yesterday.
The ringgit strengthened against the pound to 5.4477/4522 from yesterday’s 5.4504/4542 and advanced against the euro to 4.2758/2786 from 4.2766/2794 on Monday. -- BERNAMA
